If you would ask a 3 or 4 year old kid what does he like to do after school, 9 out of 10 times the reply would be Pokemon on a particular cartoon channel. Likewise ask about all time classic Tom and Jerry animation series, everyone from the age group of 7 to 70 will gush out how they enjoy watching that. Such is the power and appeal of animation. A plethora of career options are open these days and animation is one of the popular one amongst them. More and more youngsters have been opting for animation courses in animation insitutes lately. Animation brings the mute sketches and graphics alive in an organized way. Technically, they say that it is primarily displaying rapid sequence of images, for creating an illusion of movement. The result is basically an optical illusion, experienced due to persistence of vision. The students having enrolled for animation courses at at any animation insitute will surely know that!

On a serious note though, animation is a very creative and challenging field. One has to be on his toes all the time. You go to any reasonably good animation institute, computer animation is one of the very first things which are taught. Still the wonders and magic of animation is not limited only to computers. There are other techniques too in which animation can be done and which have been used for animation since long. Some of the prominent ones are -

Traditional Animation
Also termed as hand-drawn animation, this involves photographs of drawings initially drawn on paper. These photographs then constitute separate frames of a traditionally animated film. Each of the drawing is a bit diferent from the previous one in the series. Eventually the completed character cels are photographed individually onto a motion picture film in front of a painted background. A special type of a camera is used for creating the film here.

Stop Motion
Stop Motion is another technique of animation taught in animation courses. As far as stop motion is concerned, it entails use of actual objects rather than the traditional method. In this method, the animator creates desired animation by actually moving requisite objects. Then that is photographed one frame of a film at a given point of time. This finally creates illusion of movement.
Clay animation, cut out animation, object animation, graphic animation and pixilation, all are various forms of stop motion animation.
